Exercise and physical activity not only helps us feel better but, allows us to perform better at work and school. A healthy lifestyle that includes eating right and exercise creates more energy and positive behavior as well. Getting healthy doesn't have to be overwhelming. It's easy to start by taking a few small steps at a time. Here are some ways to begin and a list of nutritional foods.
• Don't skip breakfast
• Eat more whole grains
• Consume smaller serving size portions
• Milk is important
• Teach children how to cook with nutritional value
• Eat small healthy snacks during the day
Apples, bananas, grapes, raisins celery and yogurt
Canned Pumpkin: Pumpkins provide great nutrition and are very promising to your health.
They are low in calories and high in Fiber. They are also loaded with Beta Carotene which is an antioxidant that helps improve immune function and reduce the risk of chronic heart disease and cancer. Don't throw away those seeds as they are a great source of iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and protein. They also provide essential fatty acid omega-3.
Cabbage: Can be eaten in many ways and are loaded with nutrients and rich in protective vitamins. Cabbage is said to boost cancer fighting enzymes. It stimulates the
immune system and kills harmful bacteria. It is also known to soothe ulcers and improve circulation. Since cabbage can cause gas, try boiling the portion you will be eating for 5 minutes, changing the water and boiling again. If you suffer from Goiter conditions please consult your Doctor first.
Cinnamon Spice: Is one of our favorite spices, has so many uses and has beneficial effects on your health. It reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics. Cinnamon has antioxidants that help prevent cellular damage in the body. It is also helpful in treating colic, indigestion, chronic diarrhea and is an excellent remedy for colds and poor circulation. Since ground cinnamon is not water soluble it is best to take cinnamon capsules. Seek the advice of your Doctor first and speak to a nutritionist.
Turmeric Spice: This spice is used in many Indian recipes which contain curry. It is a spice used all over the world but especially as a medicinal herb in India. The component curcumin is the yellow color in the turmeric spice. This curcumin attribute has anti-inflammatory properties and helps to relieve pain associated with arthritis. It helps to relieve those with bursitis and tendinitis.
Prunes: Also considered dried plums. Since prunes have a reputation of being high in fiber and have a laxative effect, it is packed with minerals and antioxidants. Prunes are beneficial to our skin and are a great food for preventing aging not only in the body but the brain as well.
Prunes have more antioxidants then any other higher ranked fruit such as blueberries and raisins. They are an all around healthy snack too.
Pomegranate Juice: There are several health benefits from drinking Pomegranate Juice.
There have been recent studies to show that not only is the Pomegranate a very tasty fruit, it helps to prevent breast cancer cells from forming; it lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) and raises HDL (good cholesterol). They are loaded with vitamin C and a 1/2 cup of raw Pomegranate is only 80 calories. Adding Pomegranate juice to your daily intake may be a safe way to reduce your blood pressure as well. Additional studies are posting more benefits every day, but did you know that the Pomegranate is a star in the history of fruits as well. It dates back to 1000 BC. Research this famous fruit and you will be surprised.
Beets: The next time you make a salad think about adding some fresh beets. For "goodness" sake they are high in folic acid which is great for pregnant women. Their potassium, calcium, antioxidants, (betacyanin) is actually what gives the beet its color. They are high in Vitamin A and C. It is believed by some practitioners that beet juice added with other juices such as carrot juice are fantastic for cleansing the gallbladder and kidneys and restoring health to these organs and also helps eliminate constipation. Beets also help protect against heart disease, colon cancer and other cancers.
